Fleetwood’s on Front Street
ISLAND OF MAUI, HAWAII
By Ann Parenti
My husband Curtis and I have visited Maui almost every year for more than 20 years, and there are some things you must do again and again while you are there. One of them is visiting Fleetwood’s on Front Street in Lahaina on the island of Maui.
Fleetwood’s is a fabulous place to visit for many reasons. First, it is owned by Mick Fleetwood—you know, the fellow from Fleetwood Mac with a history of making hits with his pals. That alone is worth the visit because the place is full of memorabilia from his extensive career.
There is even a fun art gallery on the bottom floor where you can wander before dinner while waiting for your table. Be sure to check out the Austin motor car while you are in there.
The venue is a multi-level building with a ton of action always going on. It has the only rooftop dining in Lahaina that overlooks the beautiful Maui mountains and the ocean. Each night around sunset, Mick pays homage to his Scotland homeland and has a bagpiper perform a sunset ceremony in full regalia and bagpipes.
On this trip, I found a new drink I now will make my favorite … it’s a signature drink of theirs called The Thomas! It’s a magical concoction of Lavender syrup, straight from the famous Lavender Farm in Kula, cucumbers, mint, and cucumber vodka over ice.
The bartenders are helpful and friendly, and the food is delicious, too. They have incredible seafood and steak on the menu to choose from and always a fresh catch of the day to offer.
Now, let’s talk about the real reason everyone flocks to Fleetwood’s—the LIVE MUSIC! How could it not have stellar performers with Mick at the helm! Two bands usually perform simultaneously, one in the downstairs restaurant and bar and the other in the rooftop bar and dining room. Either room has top-notch performers. However, we mostly end up sitting at the bar for one or the other performances depending on availability and luck in timing. We have never been disappointed by any of the performances we have seen throughout the years.
We have had the pleasure of meeting Mick at his restaurant a few times over the years, and one time, we were able to be one of the fortunate guests to get tickets to a fundraising event where he performed. He surrounded himself with some very talented Hawaiian musicians and vocalists and raised money for a good cause that night. One year, he had Rod Stewart performing with him for yet another event on the rooftop venue. That was a fun evening, too! You never know who you are going to meet next while dining there. That’s what makes this place so magical.
I would highly recommend booking a table as far in advance as they allow at this most sought-after venue. You can easily go to the Open Table app and reserve a spot or call them directly at 808-669-6425.
Until we meet again, “Mahalo” Fleetwood’s for keeping the aloha hospitality going and live music alive and well in Maui!
