BRINGING TRUE FINE DINING TO SUMMERLIN
By Elaine & Scott Harris
Downtown Summerlin offers a good variety of dining venues. Now, Harlo, a stylish steakhouse, has opened its doors in the former Andiron location with Chef Gina Marinelli at the helm. Marinelli’s feminine touch is felt not only in the food but in the sophisticated décor where she moves away from the heavy dark wood and leather banquettes to creamy light gold-accented walls with an airy open 180 seat dining area while still keeping the classic deep red backlit back bar, offering generous seating and plenty of screens to watch the game. “We created a classic steakhouse, but we want to have fun with it, and of course, I had to add several pasta dishes on the menu,” said Marinelli.

The steaks, however, are the star of the show. The menu showcases superb beef from family-run Flannery’s dry-aged program, Western Reserve filets, and Allen Brothers bone-in ribeyes. “You can come in and order a great martini and an appetizer and watch the game or have a full course steakhouse dining experience,” noted Martinelli.

The dining whimsy begins with the imaginative cocktail program. Lev’s Legacy for two introduces a cocktail as an ode to Howard Hughes, the Las Vegas development’s aviator, and definer. An apple-infused Rittenhouse rye whiskey, Braulio maraschino, Averna, Barolo Chinato, and Angostura are blended inside a crystalline globe presented tableside on a small wooden airplane. It’s then poured with flair into the diamond cut rocks glass and is finished by a photo taken of you and your guests sipping the Legacy from an old-school polaroid camera.

Another enjoyable and approachable dining option from the upscale Caviar program is Collations au Caviar. This innovative offering is presented on an elegant, tiered stand, featuring a petite Caviar Taco composed of crisp potato, Hamachi, and chive; a white chocolate ganache and yuzu Caviar Macaroon that beautifully melds salty with sweet; and the Caviar egg bursting with Alaskan king crab with a creamy white truffle custard topped with a generous amount of caviar. “To make this experience complete, we recommend pairing this with the Christian Etienne Champagne,” said Harlo Sommelier Liz Davar. Her wine spirits and cocktail recommendations are spot on after years of experience, both on and off the Strip, as regional sales manager at Indigenous Selections.

Finishing up the meal with a dessert from former MGM Mansion pastry chef Alberto Rodriquez is a must. Rodriquez takes desserts to decadent levels with creamy chocolates, fragrant souffles, and stunning sweets from the seasonally inspired to the sensational. Harlo is the happening Steakhouse off the Strip, where elegance, approachability, and fun abound.
