You Had Me At Zip Lines!
MAGIC MIKE LIVE REOPENS AT SAHARA LAS VEGAS
By Stacey Gualandi
Since Magic Mike Live first hit Las Vegas in 2017, I’ve seen the male-dominated dance and entertainment experience nearly a half-dozen times! I just can’t help myself.
Based on the hugely successful films Magic Mike and Magic Mike XXL starring Channing Tatum and presented to you by the film star himself, the show closed two and a half years later to prepare for its new home inside SAHARA Las Vegas. Then came the pandemic.
So, as a devoted fan, imagine my excitement when it was announced that the show was back on … and the shirts back off!
Last month, the show made its long-awaited debut on The Strip in the all-new Magic Mike Theater at SAHARA Las Vegas. On the eve of its official grand opening on September 25th, its proud producer Beth Camuso gave me a sneak peek at just what new (and old) fans alike can expect inside.
Camuso says the MML theater is now the entertainment centerpiece of the newly remodeled hotel and casino. With a specially designed two-story interior, it’s nearly 50 percent larger than the show’s original theater at the former Hard Rock Hotel.
That’s not the only aspect that has changed with this popular production. Upon entering, there is now a Magic Mike Lounge where you can loosen up with a libation before and after the show.
“The whole idea is that everybody’s a VIP when they walk in; that’s how we want people to feel from the moment they sit down to when they leave. We want them to feel like everything was curated for their special evening,” says Camuso.
For a quick by-the-numbers overview: It seats 450. There are 350 lighting fixtures synced to the music. Over 172 speakers. A two-story bar that doubles as a performance space throughout the show. Four plexiglass ledges for the dancers (that’s new!) And two zip lines. (Also new!) Yes, I said zip lines.
The creative team — led by production designer Rachel O’Toole who designed the absolutely gorgeous grand staircase — revamped the show’s return by incorporating routines from MML’s London and Australia productions, as well as keeping fan-favorite acts (remember the pool and drum platform? Be sure to look up at the ceiling!)
Following the grand opening, guests will join the after-party at the property’s new Azilo Ultra Pool.
Daylife and Nightlife Entertainment Director Enis Kola revealed the thoroughly immersive poolside Moroccan-style palace, where all eyes will be on the gigantic LED wall—“one of the largest to be featured in a private setting on The Strip”— and will also be home to concerts, DJs and sports events. Not only is it stunning by day, but Kola emphasizes it becomes completely transformed by night.
More numbers to crunch: 35,000 square feet of poolscape; ten cabanas; three bungalows with private pools; 12 daybeds; three bars, and (something I can’t wait to try out) 14 lily pads!
All this, and I still haven’t touched on everything! Guess you’ll just have to make a trip to SAHARA Las Vegas!
See you at Magic Mike Live … oh, and I call shotgun on the couch.
