SATURDAY IN SYMPHONY PARK

By Ann Parenti

It was a beautiful spring afternoon in Symphony Park for an art show and live music performances. The City of Las Vegas hosted this event featuring various artists, craftspeople, and performers from across the valley. Even though we got there later in the afternoon, plenty was going on for the few hours before the show ended. My husband Curtis and I followed the familiar sound of Frankie Moreno, who we had just seen recently perform at Myron’s in The Smith Center. To our surprise, he had just started performing as we arrived. He was rocking the crowd to many of his originals and then broke out in a song later in the set that brought back some memories—Polk Salad Annie! He never disappoints!

We also ran into some of our fellow writers and longtime friends, Cary Vogel and Lance Robins, with their friend Heidi Sarno Strauss at Niki Sands’ beautiful art-filled booth!

Earlier that day, they featured the talent of Paige and the Overtones and Zach Ryan. The Discovery Museum had a table, and children were doing some art projects there! The Nevada Ballet Theatre, which had just celebrated its 50th Anniversary at the center this past week, had another big performance lined up to begin that night. I had the pleasure of attending their performance scheduled for that evening, Carmina Burana. Both are fabulous! You can check out our recent blog about those two events on our website, written by Stacey Gualandi.

Let’s just say The Smith Center is back into full swing, and I can’t wait to see so many other beautiful performances this summer! Check out Melissa Manchester, who will be performing at Myron’s on June 25th. Chic Compass will be there that night to cheer her on, and we may have a few surprises in store for that evening.

It was a perfect day for an outdoor gathering, and everyone seemed to be enjoying the arts, crafts, and music … especially the weather!
