The Vegas Room Supper Club Inspires Ambitious Spinoff

BY SAM NOVAK

Last year, a small but dedicated group of entrepreneurs and artists came together to create The Vegas Room Supper Club. Their goal was to give back to the city they love. As fate would have it, launching the retro-cool “listening room” happened to coincide with a worldwide pandemic, yet they pressed on. It’s fair to say that business endeavors don’t get more daring than that. “Don’t you mean ‘crazy’?” laughs Thomas Michel, the establishment’s de facto spokesman.

Whether you credit madness or inspiration, the timing was right for a much-needed retreat from COVID-19 isolation. Bolstered by its intimate setting and extensive protective measures, The Vegas Room was an instant success. It also became a beacon for entertainers eager to step back into the spotlight.

Inspired by the supper club’s loyal following, General Manager Sean Stephenson and the rest of The Vegas Room team are preparing to deliver two dazzling spinoffs under one roof. Collectively known as The Nevada Room, the new destination will be located near their signature endeavor in East Sahara Avenue’s iconic Commercial Center.

The Nevada Room is designed to provide two distinctive experiences. An informal music lounge dubbed the Piano Bar Bistro will dazzle patrons with great food, signature cocktails, a wide variety of draft beers, and live entertainment. It’ll be the ideal place to grab a pre-show drink, close down a fabulous evening, or simply enjoy some time with friends.

Slated for early 2021, the Piano Bar Bistro will be open most evenings from 5 p.m. until the wee hours. And as the name suggests, a gorgeous grand piano will be the main attraction.

Entertainment Director Jassen Allen is excited about the possibilities such an opportunity represents. “We will feature some wonderful players. We might have a guitarist, a violinist, or a cellist. It’ll be a who’s who of Las Vegas but will also give up-and-coming performers a place to showcase their talents. No matter who’s there, we will always feature live music on the premises.”

The Nevada Room’s location was once home to Commercial Deli, an iconic restaurant catering to Sin City royalty. Owner/Executive Chef David James Robinson told CHIC Compass, “When Frank, Sammy, and Dean were at the Las Vegas Country Club and wanted New York-style deli, they came to this space. It doesn’t get cooler than that!”

The Bistro’s a la carte menu is brimming with Chef David’s mouth-watering nibbles, appetizers, soups, salads, stuffed burgers, and entrees. Sweet treats will feature pastry Chef Quincy Jacobs’ artistry, who joined The Vegas Room team late last year.

“We are building a pastry kitchen which will service all three locations,” said Robinson, “and allow the amazing Chef Quincy to spread his wings. Expect gorgeous desserts and fresh bread. Even your burger will come with a house-made bun and homemade pickles.” Michel added, “Our goal is for each selection to look and taste special, without ever gouging our guests.”

The new restaurant’s more extensive kitchen facilities will be appreciated once The Nevada Room Supper Club Showroom opens adjacent to the Bistro. For this effort, the timeline is mostly dependent on the pandemic recovery, but a fall 2021 debut is the goal. Expect a broader version of The Vegas Room concept, complete with large-scale staging and seating for over one hundred guests.

With its tropical palette, indoor palm trees, and glamorous mystique, The Nevada Room Supper Club Showroom will harken back to a time when handcrafted food was king and live music was the star. Robinson describes it this way: “Picture El Morocco, The Copa, 21 Club on 52nd Street, or Ricky Ricardo playing at his fictional Tropicana Club.”

Entertainment in the big room will center around duos, trios, quartets, and jazz brunches. Some evenings might even feature plays, musicals, or dancing. And of course, Chef Robinson’s multi-course prix fixe menus will be one of the stars of every performance.

The Nevada Room (Piano Bar Bistro and The Nevada Room Supper Club and Showroom) and The Vegas Room will operate as a family…a trio of unique atmospheres with the same level of excellence from appetizer through the final bows. As Tom Michel sees it, “They’re much like brothers and sisters. Each with their own style, personality, and a desire to make a positive impact on the world.” In other words—a true labor of love.
