The Smith Center for the Performing Arts
THE INTERMISSION IS OVER
By Ann Parenti
When I walked into the Smith Center on July 14th for the media members event, I couldn’t believe it had been almost 16 months since being at my “home away from home.” I felt my heart skip a beat as I walked onto the stage where the “Heart of the Arts”® has stayed quiet with just the ghost light illuminating the stage all this time.
I know of only a few people more excited than I was at this event, and one of them was Myron Martin. Through his emotional introduction and the celebratory lighting of the theatre as we sat on the stage, he caught himself off-guard when his announcement brought up such emotion for him.
We were there for the announcement we had been anticipating, and it was done in a true showmanship way. We were the first to see a “teaser” performance by all the cast who will be performing when the theatre comes alive again. If you are a fan of 80’s music, you are in for a wonderful treat!
The Smith Center will be the first to launch the world premiere of the national tour of the new musical, “An Officer and a Gentleman,” starting Oct. 26 – Oct. 31st.
The tickets are now on sale along with a host of other fabulous shows, including the comedy “The Play That Goes Wrong.”
