Who is this icon who spent 26 years with the iconic Shirelles? Singer, songwriter, and consummate performer, An\u00e9 has traveled the world, meeting and sharing the stage with her childhood idols like Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, Coasters, Drifters, and many others. Now she has a new show that is tearing the house down!<\/p>\n

\u201cThis Is A Man\u2019s World...Buttt!\u201d<\/b> is An\u00e9's new show that she created, produced, arranged, and stars in. The songs, costumes, orchestra, singers, and dancers will have you jumping out of your seat as you take this exciting stroll down memory lane. \u201cI take the music that most men recorded but perform them in a female voice.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>

Where did this Music Legend \u2013 Black Music Awards Recipient grow up? \u201cI grew up on East Alpine Street in Newark, New Jersey, in a non-musical family. I didn\u2019t even sing in the church choir. Nothing around me made me a singer \u2026God made me a singer.\u201d<\/p>\n

How did she know she wanted to become a singer? \u201cWhen I was young, around four or five, I noticed that the birthmark on the bottom of my foot looked like a little elf with musical notes coming out of him. So I told myself, \u2018God wants me to be a singer!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

When she was in 8th grade, her chorus teacher picked An\u00e9 and two other girls to audition for the talent show, and they won! An\u00e9 sang in the school choir in high school but didn\u2019t have the time to participate in musical projects because she worked after school. No one knew about her wanting to be a singer, but she always knew she would be one. After she kept dreaming that she was performing, she told herself, \u201cYou\u2019ve got to go sing.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>

One day, An\u00e9 got up the courage to tell a fellow employee, a man who sang with Cissy Houston (Whitney\u2019s mother), that she wanted to sing. He set up an appointment, and they got together, and \u201cI was in for life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile rehearsing with gospel heavyweight Donnie Harper, he asked me, \u201cDo you write songs?\u201d<\/p>\n

I said, \u201cNo, I don\u2019t write songs.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cYes, you do. Now go home and write a song,\u201d he urged.<\/p>\n

She wrote the song \u201cIn Another Time and Place,\u201d launching her career as a songwriter.<\/p>\n

After working 21 years with PSE&G, An\u00e9 took an early buyout to have enough money to make her first CD, \u201cMy Story \u2013 Vol. 1,\u201d on her own record label. This CD made its way to the U.K. and established An\u00e9 as a bonafide, independent recording artist and songwriter. Blues & Soul Magazine began writing articles about An\u00e9 and her music. That is when the U.K. and An\u00e9 fell in love, and they\u2019ve been in love ever since!<\/p>\n

Why did she move to Las Vegas in 2004? An\u00e9 laughs, \u201cThe snow in New Jersey and the high property taxes.\u201d<\/p>\n

An\u00e9 has received numerous awards from Las Vegas Black Music Awards, including Music Legend. In 2017, An\u00e9 was inducted into the Las Vegas Entertainers Hall of Fame, and in 2021, she released \u201cLearning to Love Myself -\u00a0 Vol. 2\u201d, whose song, \u201cAny Time, Any Place,\u201d won her the #67 spot on the U.K.\u2019s The Top 100 Best of 2021.<\/p>\n<\/div>

What\u2019s the best thing she likes about performing?<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s that I\u2019m giving love and sharing all that I have. I don\u2019t hold back anything, and I\u2019m free to do things I don\u2019t know I\u2019m doing. I love the exchange with the audience. I want people to feel good, and I believe that\u2019s my assignment \u2013 a divine assignment. When I\u2019m performing, I\u2019m fulfilling that with the language from my soul, going beyond the words.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m so thankful that I have the connection and gift of song, and it connects to the hearts of people.\u201d<\/p>\n
